Masaaki Hatsumi: Art Prints
A set of 13 prints featuring paintings by Masaaki Hatsumi.
The 2017 Dojo Giga Art Exhibition
In February of 2017, Hatsumi Sensei exhibited a selection of his paintings at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan in Tokyo. Until the time of the exhibition, he had displayed some of them at his dojo, but this was an unprecedented opportunity for the public.
To publicize and commemorate this historic exhibition, we made a set of 13 prints. Each print is professionally designed and photographed, and printed on acid-free, archival quality paper, made to last 100 years.
Each set of 13 prints includes one hand-numbered, limited edition, Dojo Giga Exhibition Print which features the date and location of Sensei’s first Dojo Giga art exhibition. We only made 500 of these exhibition prints — a great collector’s item. Get yours while supplies last.
Interview with the artist
In this December 2016 interview, Hatsumi Sensei discusses the 12 paintings featured on our prints and he comments on how we could experience his art. Consider his suggestions as you contemplate the art in your prints.
Our prints are available in two sizes: Arch D (24 x 36 inches) for North America and A1 (594 x 841 mm) for international destinations. These are standard commercial paper sizes, so finding a variety of frames at great prices is easy. Your prints will all be the same size so they’ll all fit the same frame. With just two frames, you could show the exhibition print in one, and with the other you could display a different print every month!
Win 13 prints signed by Hatsumi Sensei!
On October 27th 2019, Hatsumi Sensei signed a full set of 13 prints. The hand-numbered Exhibition Print in this set is #006 (of 500). On this Exhibition Print he wrote, bampen fugyō 万変不驚 meaning “10,000 changes / no surprise.” We’re giving away this signed set — how can you win?
Everyone who purchased a full set of prints will be included in our lottery (yep, our 2016 Kickstarter supporters are included and every additional set purchased gets you another lottery ticket). When the last set is sold, we’ll do our lottery and the winner will get the full set of signed prints!

Sensei’s paintings don’t pull punches. Understanding his works requires knowledge of Japanese language, culture, art, religion, history and the specific traditions of his dojo. To help fill gaps, Masaaki Hatsumi: Dojo Giga | Heaven offers an appendix with commentary, essays for context, and comments from the artist. We also offer PDF documents (one for each print) which you can download. Some of the 13 PDFs are below and we’ll post more soon. We hope these will help you enjoy your prints.
